Andrey Pashkevich (1945-2011) was a member of the Russian Union of Artists and a member of the International Federation of Artists (IFA). As a cameraman he worked on several feature-length films, founded his own television company “Russian Musical Television” in the 1990s and was involved in creating cultural programs and shows for Russian television. However, Andrey Pashkevich obtained his fame mostly as a painter. As Joseph Kiblitsky, the director the publishing and exhibition projects at the Russian Museum, put it, “Andrey Pashkevich combines two types of artistry: not only a painter, but also a cameraman. As a painter he uniquely reflected the historical epoch; and as a cameraman he perceived it as a film with many episodes”. The artist started his series of works called “Politecology” in the late 1980s, during the years of “perestroika”. In these paintings he tried to express his own view on what was going on in the country at that time. All these painting bring up the issue about everything the country and its people went through: its hopes for democracy, equality and justice. “Politecology” can be considered as a somewhat historical and philosophical chronicle.
