About

This traditional Russian restaurant is located in an 18th-century mansion on the picturesque Volga embankment, right next to the Music & Time Museum. The restaurant occupies several rooms in the basement of the building with original brickwork and vaulted ceilings. Each room in the restaurant is different, representing different periods in Russian history, from medieval hall to a 19th-century Russian traktir (a tavern which serves food and drinks). The main concept of the restaurant is old Russian cuisine based on the pre-revolutionary cookbooks. So do expect to find many new names and terms even for those who are well familiar with Russian cuisine. And the size of the menu is not helping, you'll need quite a lot of time to browse it. Although the most bizarre medieval Russian dishes have been adapted to modern tastes, we predict that your taste sense is still going to be challenged by all those pickles, shchis, and okroshkas. You might need to wait for the dishes cooked in a traditional Russian oven, such as porridges, potatoes, and soups but they're well worth the wait!

About

This superb gastrobar is hidden in a quiet courtyard in the old UNESCO-listed part of Yaroslavl. Pass through the gates either from Trefoleva or from Pervomayskaya St. and you're there. The place is usually quiet during the day, perfect for a slow lunch with a book (you can browse their selection on a bookshelf). Come here in the evening when it gets crowded with young and fashionable crowd of locals who come here to enjoy live music and chat over a pint of craft beer or a creative coctail. The menu is dominated by street food: burgers, tacos and meatballs but there's also a decent choice of soups, salads, pasta, meat and fish, and desserts.
