NUCLEAR ICEBREAKER LENIN
АТОМНЫЙ ЛЕДОКОЛ "ЛЕНИН"

About
'Lenin' is the first nuclear icebreaker ever built. It was built in 1957 in order to clear the Arctic route (also known as the Northeast Passage) for Soviet cargo ships. Throughout its service, 'Lenin' became one of the most famous ships in the world. Many world leaders, scientists, and other famous people visited it, Richard Nixon, Harold Macmillan, Fidel Castro, and Yuri Gagarin among many others. The ship was finally decommissioned in 1989, and was destined to be cut for scraps, until the former captain and the crew started a campaign to convert 'Lenin' into a museum. The museum finally opened in 2005, and has since become the most popular attraction in Murmansk, visited by over 200 000 people. Today, you can visit the ship with a guided tour, and see the captain's room, the canteen, and the captain's bridge, and also go down to the nuclear reactor, and see the recently opened interactive exhibition about the Arctic located in former sailors' cabins.
Yes. There's a souvenir shop at the ticker office selling postcards, T-shirts, and other souvenirs with icebreakers, Murmansk, and polar bears.
