The hotel is located on the central Lenin Sqaure in a historical building which is around 230 years old. It was originally built as a brewery and a coaching inn where many famous people stayed on their way to the south, including the Empress Catherine the Great and Russian fable writer Ivan Krylov. The hotel and the brewery reopened in 1994, and although none of the original decor had survived, the owners recreated the rooms in classic style naming each category of the rooms after various social classes of pre-revolutionary Russia. They have single and double rooms in the mansard which are cheaper, there're a bit more spacious rooms on the 1st floor, and there're also family rooms and suites. Although the managers on reception may tell you that all rooms are pretty much the same, they are not. Even rooms of the same category vary. Some of them have carpets and armchairs, others don't. So it's best to ask them to show you several rooms, and choose the one you like most.
